LIMITATIONS OF HUMANITY.

LIMITATIONS OF HUMANITY.

Eight years have past since the coming of the Old.

They landed on the Northern territory of Australia, over the mount Zeil.
At first we thought it was an asteroid, and we tried to deflect it one year before the impact, but it failed, then we scanned it more carefully, and what we saw was beyond our imagination, a perfect red sphere with a five kilometer radius, full of craters and openings in its spiked surface.
For a year we tried everything we could think of: All forms of communication, new deflection satellites, lasers and even nukes.
Our last  chance was a monster rail gun, assembled in space, result of a unprecedented cooperation of all nations of Earth. One week before the impact, we loaded the cannon with one hundred enriched uranium kinetic shells, 30 tons each, and we fired them at 10 times the speed of sound, 14.000.000 meters per second.

All projectiles hit the intruder, and the impact released so much energy that the red sphere shined likes a sun for almost a minute.

Mankind hold its breath, just to discover that the enemy was unharmed.

We prepared for the worst, and at may 23 they landed in the middle of Australia, causing a impact wave strong as a 8.0 Ritcher scale. Cities trembled and tsunamis spread around the globe. The dust lifted turned day in night in the Southern Hemisphere, a night that would last four months, ruining crops and causing civil unrest and famine.

The military forces, united under the flag of Mankind rush into action, but it was futile. For 5 years, the sphere stood under siege and attacks, and nought happened.

For a while, we started believing it wasn’t dangerous, and under public pressure, a diplomatic effort was made.

When the ship opened it self and a creature similar to a ten meter high maggot crawled, some overcame the nausea and cheered for the new age to come.

But them the monster simple ate our ambassador, live, in a world wide transmission.

Panic ensued, and we nuked them with thousands of warheads, once again we achieved nothing. Those creatures, we simple call them Old, are indestructible as their ship: They walk out of a nuclear impact crater like a child walk out of a puddle of water.

They live to eat. Men, women, child, pets, cattle, even cars and buildings, millions of those monsters are now devouring our planet and our species.

I wait here, writing in a piece of paper what is probably my farewell. Soon they will be over me, they are already covering great past of the surface of our world. I will bury it, in the hope someone is spared and miraculously find this letter, so he know one thing:

We humans, are limited creatures.
